Configure Auto-Update Date Fields
You can configure a Date field to automatically update when a credential is printed. Auto-Update Date fields can be used to populate issue dates, expiration dates, and print tracking dates without manually entering values.
- Open the Enrollment Design.
- Edit an existing Date field or create a new Date field.
- Configure the Date field properties.
- Enable Auto-Update Date.
- Select the desired update behavior.
- If the selected behavior requires a date calculation, specify the offset value and select the appropriate unit of measure.
- Click Save to save the changes.
Auto-Update Date Behaviors
Date fields can be configured to perform one of the following actions when a credential is printed:
- Populate the field with the current date.
- Populate the field with an offset date.
Auto-Update Dates can be triggered on:
- Empty - Only populated once when a credential is printed and the field is initially empty.
- Every Print - Each time a credential is printed, the date will be recalculated.
Offset values can be configured using:
- Days
- Months
- Years
Time Zones
- Select the desired time zone for the Auto-Update Date field configuration.
- If unselected, the Auto-Update feature uses UTC for calculations.
Example
An Auto-Update Date field can be used as an expiration date and automatically calculated using the print date plus a configured offset value. For example, to set an expiration date that occurs three years after printing, specify an offset value of 3 and an offset unit of Years.
Note: Auto-Update Date fields are updated when a credential print job is initiated. This behavior applies to single credential printing, bulk credential printing, and credentials printed through the API.
Reprint Behavior
Reprints follow the configured behavior for the field.
- An Auto-Update Date field configured to populate only when the field is empty remains unchanged after the initial print.
- An Auto-Update Date field configured to update each time a credential is printed recalculates the date on each print.
- An Auto-Update Date field configured to recalculate using the current date uses the current date.
- An Auto-Update Date field configured to recalculate using a configured offset uses the configured offset.
Data Storage and Reporting
Values generated through Auto-Update Date fields are saved to the enrollment record.
These values are available for:
- Credential printing
- Searching
- Reporting
Backward Compatibility
If Auto-Update Date is not enabled, Date fields continue to operate as standard Date fields and can be populated manually or through existing integrations.
Existing Date field functionality remains unchanged unless Auto-Update Date is configured.
